Network Telephone Workshop: Explore The Exploratorium STEM Resources

Article

Cheri Chord and Judith Shotwell offered a telephone workshop on science and math enrichment activities. The Exploratorium has received a grant to bring science and math enrichment activities into out-of-school time.

The goal of the Exploratorium Digital Library Afterschool Project is to bring more science and math enrichment into out-of-school time using resources from the Exploratorium’s Digital Library (www.exploratorium.edu/library), one of the many collections from the National Science Digital Library. Educators visiting the site will learn different afterschool activities through digital videos, concept maps, links to other STEM resources in NSDL, science explanations, educator tips, and related activities. Portable media in the form of a DVD is also available.

Research has indicated that fewer students are following academic and career paths into science, technology, engineering, and math. The out-of-school learning environment is a great way of generating interest, engagement, and capacity to know and do science.

In the telephone workshop we explored some of the many resources that are available to you: hands on activities, digital videos, professional-development materials, program support resources, research publications, concept maps, and teaching tips. Learn ways to engage students in the exciting world around them.
