CAN Newsletter

We are still riding high on all the Symposium & Agents of Change love! The Symposium Planning Team, with support from the California AfterSchool Network, California Department of Education Expanded Learning Division, and the System of Support for Expanded Learning, convened the 7th annual Site Coordinator Symposium - Agents of Change: Growing with Expanded Learning, this past week, virtually on Wednesday, February 21, via Zoom and in person on Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Fresno Convention Center in Fresno, CA.

The Symposium offered 50+ workshops, 5+ plenary guest speakers, three evening community-building receptions, 25+ Partner Sponsors, and over 650 participants, virtually and in person. What an incredible event to support Site Coordinators and those who support Site Coordinators in our Expanded Learning and Our-of-School-Time spaces. We sincerely appreciate our Workshop Presenters, Guest Speakers, and the Symposium Planning Team! Special shout out to our Partner sponsors who continue to support CAN and Site Coordinators!

Lastly, on behalf of CAN and the Symposium Planning Team, we hope the #CaSCsymposium provided attendees, especially site coordinators and direct-service practitioners, with a high-quality experience and opportunities to connect, build capacity, be seen, be heard, and celebrate! We hope to see you in Sacramento, CA, for the 2025 Site Coordinator Symposium on February 7 and 8, 2025!

New Partner Resources to Support TK Students in ELO-P

Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) planning and implementation in California has taken a collaborative approach. As part of this effort, the California Department of Education’s (CDE’s) Early Education Division and Expanded Learning Division (EXLD), in partnership with the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), convened a small team in response to the growing need for ELO-P providers to serve California’s younger children as Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is fully implemented.

Working together with a wide range of stakeholders from both the Early Learning and Expanded Learning fields, including representatives from state agencies, county offices of education, districts, intermediary organizations, and funders, this team created resources to help Local Educational Agencies and their ELO-P partners prepare to serve our youngest learners effectively.
