Kids Included Together’s 4th Annual National Conference on Inclusion will feature exciting new skill-building workshops given by practitioners in the field, inspiring presentations by nationally recognized speakers and performers, and chances to network with others who are interested in creating and sustaining inclusive programs.

This free telephone workshop will feature Bonnie Benard, renowned youth development expert and author who will define youth development, share strategies for implementing youth development in after school programs, and present resources including access to free regional youth development training for after school staff. After school practitioners will join the call and discuss how they have implemented youth development prinicipals in their programs. This telephone workshop will take place on April 3, 2008 from 10:00 – 11:00. All are welcome to join.

Even after practicing and implementing pro-active group management strategies, challenging behaviors and conflicts are guaranteed to occur within youth programming. This follow-up workshop addresses creative intervention strategies for dealing with conflicts that arise and decreasing the impact of unwanted behavior. Through group discussions and role plays, participants explore and practice strategies to work with students that need a higher degree of direct management strategies in a way that fosters healthy experiences for the entire group.

The Cooperative for After School Enrichment (CASE) will host this two-day symposium to increase awareness of the potential and advance knowledge of work with older youth in after school programs. The event will bring together new and experienced after school program leaders along with nationally recognized experts in youth development to focus on the role of the practitioner to create successful out of school time programs for older youth. This event will feature a conversation with Jane Elliott, internationally known diversity trainer and developer of the controversial "blue eyes, brown eyes" exercise which exposes participants to the feeling of prejudice based on such arbitrary factors as eye color. The Power of Play

This workshop offers participants a template for introducing and implementing a physical activity program that is well-rounded, fun, and accessible to every child. A variety of games from our Movement Modalities curriculum will be taught through experiential learning (hint: put on your sneakers and get ready to play), as well as a review of facilitation tips and strategies to work through potential challenges.
