The California Afterschool Network Peer to Peer Mentoring Project for Site Directors.

What is the California Afterschool Network Peer to Peer Mentoring Project?

  • Through a grant from the Packard Foundation, 50 experienced after school site directors will be matched with 200 new after school site directors to carry out a nine month mentoring project.
  • The goal of the project is to provide ongoing support and coaching to new site directors to help them develop the competencies necessary to manage a quality after school program.

What Can Mentors and Mentees Expect To Gain

  • An opportunity for experienced site directors to mentor four new site directors.
  • With support, knowledge and coaching by seasoned after school site directors we will create a viable group of site directors with the professional competencies needed to deliver high quality after school programs to California’s youth.
  • Workshops and conferences, excellent professional development to help you develop new skills and knowledge around best practices in after school programs.
  • Stipend upon successful completion of the project.

Qualifications:

  • Mentees: Must be in their role as site director 2 years or less. New site directors are encouraged to apply.
  • Mentors: Must be in their role as site director 3 years or more and have operated a quality after school program.

Time Commitment
Mentors will begin their commitment with an all day mentor training. The Mentor-Mentee relationship spans from the beginning of next school year (September 2008) until the end of the school year (June/July 2009). The relationship begins by the Mentee completing a core competency self assessment. Based on this assessment, the Mentor and the Mentee create a work plan to build Mentee capacity. Following the establishment of a work plan, Mentors and Mentees will have a chance to visit each other's sites, participate in telephone conversations regarding the work plan approximately twice per month, and attend a regional meeting of mentors and mentees.

Compensation
All participants will receive a stipend upon completion of the project

Regional Mentors Stipend: $1200.00
Mentor Stipend: $700.00
Mentee Stipend: $400.00

To Apply: Applications for mentees are still available below. The Network will be accepting a limited number of Mentees on a first come first served basis. Regional Mentors will be chosen from the Mentor pool.
