After School Chaos

We use shared space in an elementary school, and often times our 120 children are limited only to the lunchroom area. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to organize a 3 hour time period, when we are limited to
this one area? It is January in Nebraska, and too cold to go outside!

problems with playground and gym active play
We have 12 students, kindergarten to 3rd grade. We have snack and go to the playground or the gym. Some of the students have a difficult time playing in a group, following group rules and and are overly aggressive with one another. When we return inside, their choices are the computer lab or arts & crafts, legos, or games, etc. in the lunchroom. They appear to be happy and engaged after we return inside. How can I make the active play more enjoyable for everyone?

Third graders are developmentally ready for rules. K-2nd graders need to be taught rule following explicitly. Explanations such as: "if you follow the rules you'll have fun" "if you listen and ask questions you'll learn the rules" need to be repeated frequently. Model the games and rules: adult shows behavior then picks a student she thinks will model the behavior for the others. Another thought: you might break your group in two: younger and older, or example, and pick age appopriate games. Good luck.
