Howard Jacobs

Biography

Howard Jacobs has been a dedicated advocate for young children and their families, people living with HIV disease and the GLBT community for much of his professional career. His work in the public sector includes positions as Grass Roots Program Manager for AIDS Project Los Angeles, Chief Council Deputy for West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang, and Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for GLASS Youth and Family Services.

Presently, Howard is the State Manager of Advocacy and Policy for Save the Children, an international children’s relief organization that is expanding its U.S. program presence in poor, rural areas of California and the United States. Save the Children’s California programs include an after-school technical assistance component that helps Prop 49 funded providers on literacy skills building and physical activity/nutrition activities. Additionally, Save the Children offers programs and services to the 0-5 population and young children and families facing natural disasters such as wildfires. Currently, Save the Children’s California programs are located in Fresno, Tulare, and San Bernardino County’s.

Howard serves as a member of West Hollywood’s Rent Stabilization Commission where he adjudicates landlord tenant disputes. Also, he represents Board Member Marlene Canter on Los Angeles Unified School District’s Human Relations Council, which advises the Board of Education on inter-group relations. Maintaining his interest in HIV public policy matters, Howard, in addition, serves as the Los Angeles County community representative on the Centers' for Disease Control and Prevention HIV Morbidity Monitoring Project.

Howard Jacobs has been a tireless advocate and community leader on issues impacting children and families, GLBT youth in the foster care system, people living with HIV and civil rights. He enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and hanging out with his dog, Wilma in his free time.
