ASES Universal and Renewal Requests for Applications

Post

The After School Division of the California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce the release of two new After School Education and Safety (ASES) Requests for Application (RFAs).

1. The ASES Program Universal Grant RFA - This RFA is for

  • Those organizations seeking a new, first time ASES grant; or
  • Current ASES grantees seeking to add an ASES program site or increase funding for a current site to the legislative cap.

In this RFA, there will be approximately $6 million available to those organizations seeking ASES grants. Grants will be warded to schools with the highest percentage of students in the free and reduced price meal program.

2. The ASES Grant Renewal RFA - This RFA is for current grantees that are eligible this year to apply for renewal of their existing and expiring ASES grant.

What’s New
1. ASES Universal Grant RFA Only

  • Pending County District School (CDS) Code or Charter School Number - If, during your application, our ASSIST automated system cannot find your pending CDS code or you have only an active/pending charter school number, there is an alternative method of applying for an ASES grant. You may now download a hard copy of the application and mail it to us. See the RFA for details.
  • Using Currently Available FRPM Data to Make Awards - In order to release the grant notifications earlier, the ASD is using current year FRPM data to determine awards rather than delay award determination until the newest FRPM data is released. Besides awarding the grants earlier, this approach also has the advantage of allowing applications to know precisely what FRPM percentage they will be evaluated on and how they stand relative to all other applicants.

 3. Both ASES Universal and Renewal RFAs

  • Good Standing is defined as:

    • All attendance reports for current grantees have been submitted and have been found by the ASD to be complete.
    • All expenditure reports for current grantees have been submitted and have been found by the ASD to be complete.
    • Annual statewide evaluation data for current grantees have been submitted to the ASD and have been found by the ASD to be complete.

In the ASES Universal RFA, applicants who are asking for additional funding for new schools or to increase funding at an existing school site, will be disqualified if they are not in Good Standing.
In the ASES Renewal RFA, applicants who are asking to renew their ASES program, will be renewed only if they are in Good Standing.

  • Co-Applicant Signatures - Any Co-applicant that does not sign all documents required in the application will be dropped from he application, but the application will be moved forward for funding consideration as long as an LEA has signed all required documents.

Access the ASES RFAs. The final filing date for both applications is Friday, February 13, 2015, at 5:00 p.m.
