Call for Presenters on Quality Standards in Action
The California AfterSchool Network is partnering with eight regions to host conferences around the recently released Quality Standards for Expanded Learning Programs in California. We are seeking skilled presenters to lead substantive, engaging workshops throughout the state related to the 12 areas outlined in the Quality Standards. Workshops are typically 90 minutes in length for multiple levels of practitioner but will vary by conference. Each Region will be choosing presenter(s) that most closely meet their current needs. If you are interested in presenting, please complete the application below to be considered.
CAN Policy Committee – Quarterly Policy Update
Federal, state, local, and administrative policy updates
On November 25, 2014 the CAN Policy Committee convented for a live update on relevant federal, state, local, and administrative policies impacting expanded learning. CAN Policy Committee Co-chairs provided updates on relevant California policy including election results, ballot propositions, state budget, Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), as well as recently passed legislation. The update also featured information on federal elections, budget, and policies impacting expanded learning. Additionally, an overview was provided on state administrative policies impacting expanded learning programs.

The Excitement Builds for CA Number One Ranking
America After 3PM Report Gaining Traction Throughout the State
On October 16th, the After School Alliance released the America After 3pm report which ranks California number one in the nation for after school. The release was announced in a press release by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson. Arnold Schwarzenegger applauded California’s number one ranking in an audio press release.
Upcoming Funding Opportunities
The California AfterSchool Network recently posted new funding opportunities for expanded learning programs in California. The CAN funding opportunities web page provides access to funding opportunities by deadline, grants databases, and ongoing funding opportunities (with no deadline). CAN’s Power of Discovery website also features an array of STEM-related funding opportunities.
