State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson Applauds Three Ballot Measure Approved by Voters that Will Help California Students and Schools
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson recently thanked voters for passing three critical ballot measures that will help improve California’s education system, Proposition 55, Proposition 51, and Proposition 58. Proposition 51 will fund school facilities updates and repairs. “Proposition 55 continues a major investment in our schools, providing districts with the resources to continue the momentum we have seen reflected in increasing graduation rates, rising test scores in math and English, reduced class sizes, and the return of classes in art, music, science, and civics,” Torlakson said. Proposition 58 allows school districts to offer dual-language immersion and “reduces unnecessary barriers to multilingual education and encourages our students to become proficient in a language in addition to English, an ability that will allow them to succeed in the global workplace, and to more fully participate in the rich cultural diversity of California.” Read more, here.
