Federal Child Nutrition reauthorization is currently under way. The current Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which authorizes funding for child nutrition programs such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program (including the After School Meal Program), the School Breakfast Program, and the Summer Food Service Program, is up for reauthorization by the end of September. A recent youth today article summarizes a variety of proposed changes and legislation related to Child Nutrition Reauthorization. Additionally, the Food Research and Action Center and the Afterschool Alliance (see attached document) outline the three bills introduced as part of Child Nutrition Reauthorization, their implications for before school, after school and summer learning programs, as well as important individuals to inform about the importance of such programs.
