Good news! 21st Century funding is increased in the federal spending bill

Post

On Friday March 23rd, despite threats to veto, President Trump signed a $1.3 trillion FY2018 omnibus spending bill, which will fund the government through September 30th. The bill increases 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) by $20 million over the FY2017 level bringing the total 21st CCLC funding level to $1.21 billion.Other notable increases in funding in the spending bill include the Child Development Block Grant, Title I funding, School Health funding, Career Technical Education, and more. To learn more about other funding streams that can support afterschool and summer supported in the proposed omnibus and next steps in the process, visit the Afterschool Alliance Blog, Afterschool Snack. While this is good news for children families, and communities, our work at the federal level is far from done because the funding bill expires in September and was passed even though Trump has proposed to eliminate Federal After School Funding for two years in a row.
