Nearly ten years ago, the California AfterSchool Network (CAN) was launched by the UC Davis School of Education, which sponsored CAN during a period of rapid growth and expansion. Within the past year, CAN’s Leadership Team, funders, and fiscal sponsor (REEd at the UC Davis School of Education) have collectively come together to address key questions concerning the future of CAN, including its fiscal home. On January 22, 2015, the CAN Leadership Team voted to seek a new fiscal sponsor that could optimally support CAN’s future expansion of its strategic plan, leadership, and policy and advocacy efforts.

While working closely with funders to implement a transition plan, CAN will continue to provide support to the field though its committee activities, list serv communications, newsletters, promotion of the new Quality Standards, and release of the State-of-the-State of Expanded Learning Report.  Additionally, CAN will finalize a suite of on-line tools associated with the Power of Discovery initiative.

During this time, Jeff Davis will continue to serve as CAN Interim Director with support from Kelly Faustino, CAN Program Coordinator. Each of them will work closely with the CAN Leadership Team to ensure a smooth organizational transition while advancing the important work of CAN.
