SB 78 Passes Senate Education Committee
Long road still ahead for SB 78

Post

Senate Bill 78 (SB 78, Leyva) would increase the ASES daily rate by $1.50 (to $9.00 per student per day) through a budget augmentation in 2017-18 with future increases tied to increases in the state minimum wage (access a fact sheet on SB 78). On April 19, 2017 the Senate Education Committee passed SB 78 unanimously and re-referred the bill to the Committee on appropriations. The Committee’s analysis of the bill highlights that 69 organizations support the bill. Passage from Committee is one step in the legislative process. SB 78 will be heard by the Assembly Budget Subcommittee #2 (Education, Finance) on Tuesday April 25th in the State Capitol, Room 444. Additionally, SB 78 will be addressed during the Senate Budget Subcommittee #1 (Education) on May 11th in State Capitol Room 3191. In each of the hearings attendees should have the opportunity to testify briefly. Learn how you can take action.
