The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is currently accepting applications for the Promise Zones Competition, where eligible communities can apply to receive priority consideration for certain competitive federal programs and technical assistance. While this is not a grant-funding competition, selected communities will have the opportunity to reverse high-poverty trends by creating more jobs, revitalizing economic activity, combating crime rats, improving educational conditions, and leveraging private capital. The deadline to apply is November 21, 2014.
