State Legislative Update

  • Vetoed – SB 737 which would have expanded child care licensing exemption to ASES programs that operate 30-60 hours per week
  • Vetoed – AB 165 that would have prohibited fees for educational activities, including extracurricular activities
  • Signed into law – SB 429, which expands flexibility for supplemental grants, to allow $15 per student rate for 6-hour program as an alternative to $7.50 for 3-hour program; allow programs to serve any student from district; and allow programs to operate on site other than base grant schoolsite.  SB 429 appears to allow districts to consolidate supplemental programs into a smaller number of sites.  (Apparently, such consolidation has previously been permitted, but this could increase use)
