California After School Physical Activity Guidelines

Resource

The intent of the California After School Physical Activity (CASPA) Guidelines is to create high-quality physical activity programs that expand learning opportunities of the regular school day. The CASPA Guidelines can help achieve these goals. The CASPA Guidelines were developed as a result of Education Code Section 8484.8, which required the California Department of Education (CDE) to develop voluntary after school physical activity guidelines for CDE-funded after school programs. CDE-funded programs include the state-funded After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program, and the federally funded 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLCs) and 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) programs. The CASPA Guidelines were developed under the leadership of the CDE After School Programs Office in partnership with the California After School Resource Center (CASRC). The CDE and CASRC appointed and convened the After School Physical Activity Expert Panel (Expert Panel) to develop the CASPA Guidelines.
