Start - Stay - Succeed

The California Afterschool Network campaign to support and celebrate regular student attendance in after school programs.

Background
Recent research has overwhelmingly shown that frequent attendance in after school programs produces positive outcomes for children and youth. Students who participate in after school programs are likely to experience academic gains, show increased pro-social and behavior outcomes, and their communities may see a reduction in juvenile crime. Research also suggests that a lack of supervision after school is associated with negative outcomes for disadvantaged youth.

Start-Stay-Succeed Campaign
The California Afterschool Network Start-Stay-Succeed Campaign is a way for individual programs to encourage and celebrate regular participation in after school programs, and a way for statewide programs to illustrate how many students are participating at high levels all throughout the state.

How to Participate
Follow these three simple steps to participate!

  1. Enter your name, email, and program name (this will become your registered
    username)
  2. Enter the number of students in your program that have participated 100, 140, and 180 days in the program.
  3. Celebrate Your Students: As students reach attendance milestones, celebrate your students by updating your profile, dowloading, and printing certificates.

Continue this process throughout the year, especially easy to do when reporting attendance. The California Afterschool Network will fund an end of the year party for the after school programs with the highest amounts of regular student attendance recorded.
