Claudia Medina
Region 4
Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs, Coordinator, Alameda Unified School District
Claudia Medina has worked for Alameda Unified School District’s After School Program for 13 years. Over time, as a seasoned practitioner, she has learned to navigate the educational system. She is passionate about supporting working families and immigrants, and has a soft spot for single parents who benefit from after school enrichment for their children. You can often see Claudia assisting new district leaders in establishing the infrastructure needed to run effective, meaningful, and functional programs. Claudia most recently Launched a culture of innovation with LEGO education thanks to ELOP funds. This program supports students in building their language and literacy skills through storytelling. As part of her leadership, Claudia is in tune with our young educator workforce and, as such, created two tools this year: An After School TK-K Teacher Guidance to support after school program staff with our youngest students around the importance of routines, SEL, fostering independence, and toileting needs, AND a Parent/Guardian Handbook for After school Programs, which provides expectations and support for staff to effectively assist students, aligning with day-school standards for better outcomes.
