Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers—Call for Grant Competition Reviewers

The California Department of Education (CDE) will be conducting competitions for the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) and 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) after school funds, beginning this fall. To support this effort, the CDE is now seeking Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Grant Competition Reviewers. 

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century grant application Grant Competition Reviewers should have expertise in providing effective academic enrichment, youth development, and related services to students. The CDE will select Grant Competition Reviewers based on their professional and personal experience as it relates to the goal, purpose, and needs of the 21st CCLC and ASSETs Programs. Applicants will not be selected if they are submitting a Nita M. Lowey 21st Century grant application or are a representative of a grant applicant that has applied for the current 2023–24 cycle. Potential Grant Competition Reviewers must also certify that neither they, nor any member of their immediate family, has a material, personal, or financial relationship in any application under consideration by the 21st CCLC and/or ASSETs for this application period.

Content Review Experts must be available to attend the program quality calibration and the Financial Assistance Application Submittal Tool (FAAST) system one-day virtual training scheduled for November 30, 2022, from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Grant applications will be made available for review from December 2022 through March–April 2023. The CDE will pay a stipend for the Grant Competition Reviewers reading Nita M. Lowey’s 21st Century applications at a rate of $50 per application. CDE employees are exempt from receiving a stipend.

Reader Applications are due by October 14, 2022.
