Raise Your Voice! Today is the California After School and Summer Challenge

Today hundreds of after school and summer learning practitioners, advocates, and youth are rallying at the state capitol and entering the building to inform our legislators about the importance of after school and summer learning and the critical need for a funding increase. If you are attending the challenge, thank you for speaking on behalf of all of those who could not be there. If you are not able to attend, there is still a lot you can do!

  • Stay up-to-date! Follow CAN, CalSAC and Save Afterschool on Twitter for the latest from the rally – like and share posts to expand our collective voice

  • Be prepared! Check out the Challenge Social Media Kit for sample content and language 

  • Tell your story! Post on social media why afterschool is important to you

  • Post pictures! Images of your program’s youth will go a long way in showing the importance of after school and summer learning. 

  • Get it trending! Use the #SaveAfterSchool and #CAChallenge hashtags

  • Make sure your representatives hear from you! Tweet your legislators (you can find them here) and the Governor

    Spread the word! Be on the lookout for any press coverage the Challenge receives and share

Trump Proposes to Eliminate Federal 21st CCLC Funding for After School and Summer Learning… Again

Yesterday, President Donald Trump released his proposed budget for fiscal year 2020. The budget calls for a complete elimination of the Federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Trump’s proposal would eliminate after school programs for over 1.7 million children and youth nationally, and eliminate over $130 million dollars in funding to California, eliminating programs at approximately 740 sites, including over 300 High Schools.
