Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Manager, San Leandro Unified School District

Emily D. Nathan, MPA, is a mission-driven education leader with over 25 years of experience designing, managing, and scaling high-impact programs across the Bay Area. With deep expertise in after-school and expanded learning, Emily has overseen district wide initiatives serving thousands of K–12 students, developed sustainable systems for program execution, and built cross-sector partnerships to ensure equitable student outcomes. 

Emily began her career in youth development with Berkeley Unified School District, where she spent over a decade leading and scaling the Berkeley LEARNS after-school programs. She went on to serve as Director of Operations at REALM Charter School in Berkeley, where she played a pivotal role on the executive leadership team, aligning operational and instructional systems across two campuses. Following this, Emily joined Oakland Unified School District as an Attendance Liaison, working across middle schools to build systems for engagement and student support.

Currently, she serves as the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program Manager for San Leandro Unified School District, overseeing after-school programming across ten sites and leading partnerships that integrate enrichment with academic success. Emily brings to every role a deeply collaborative, equity-focused approach rooted in strategic planning, relationship-building, and a lifelong commitment to educational access.
