The Site Lead Initiative
A state-wide, focused initiative on the increased support and development for Out-of-School Time Site Leads!

Post

This page is dedicated to those practitioners, thought leaders, experts, and technical assistance providers in the field of out-of-school time programs to come together and start meaningful conversations about the possibility of creating a thoughtful system of support for Site Leads that could help balance the challenges that these folks face as they do what they do best- which is run programs and impact communities.

The commitment to this group is on a voluntary basis. We will use this forum to exchange ideas and share our thoughts around the systems of support that are currently available for Site Leads at the local and statewide level, get input from organizational leaders, stakeholders, and Site Leads.

If you are interested, please complete the application below and start by reading the White Paper by Frank Escobar attached.

Please let us know what you think or if you have any ideas or comments by providing them in the comment section below. (Please note that comments will be visible to the public on this page)

Welcome & Thank You!

Dear Afterschool Friends & Colleagues!

First of all, let me start by saying "thank you" and how much I appreciate your passion and dedication to the work we all do! Secondly, let me say "thank you" for taking an interest in this unique but worthy initiative for our field around focusing more Support and Development, specifically, for our Site Leads!

At the time of my transition into the after school field, I had absolutely no clue how immensley challenging this work would actually be. Additionally, I had no idea how demanding the work is on the individual overseeing the school site operating an after school program. But, since then, I have grown to understand the complexities of the work and the sheer fortitude one needs to lead and manage a successful after school program for a school.

That said, this virtual forum, provided to us by the California Afterschool Network (CAN), is what I hope to become the "Virtual Think-Tank" for potential ideas, strategies and processes for increasing the Support and Development for Site Leads. At this point, the pathway forward is wide-open so please start by providing some thoughts on the following question:

1. In your opinnion, what would be some potential "first steps" to launching a strategic initiative around increasing the Support and Development for Site Leads in our field?
