Attendance Recovery Resources
Updated September 2025
School districts statewide are preparing to implement California’s new Attendance Recovery policy, which helps LEAs recover lost ADA funding and learning by offering extra academic support outside school hours. Attendance Recovery programs are optional and can be offered in conjunction with ELO-P to realize fiscal efficiencies and expand student access to ELO-P. Below are a few resources to support the development and implementation of these programs.
CDE Guidance & Resources
The California Department of Education (CDE) has published guidance to support local educational agencies design and implement high-quality Attendance Recovery programs. The guidance emphasizes student engagement, instructional continuity, and equity. It also includes a comprehensive list of helpful web resources. This program guidance complements the existing Frequently Asked Questions page.
Additionally, the CALPADS Office recently relased a CALPADS Flash Update on data collection for Attendance Recovery programs.
For questions about the guidance contact Educational Options Office at EOO@cde.ca.gov.
For questions on attendance for apportionment and instructional time, contact the Attendance Accounting Office at AttendanceAccounting@cde.ca.gov.
Los Angeles County of Education (LACOE) Resource
The Attendance Recovery in Expanded Learning Programs Tool was developed by the Expanded Learning Technical Assistance Unit at the LACOE, with the intent of supporting LEAs operationg Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs who are considering operating in conjunction with the Attendance Recovery Program. This tool is currently designed to provide consideration points as LEAs plan and begin implementation of an Attendance Recovery Program.
