Recently released findings from Oakland learning community

A recently released evaluation released by Public Profit summarizes the impacts of an Oakland professional learning community (PLC) aimed at improving the quality of informal math activities. The Math PLC provided training, on-site coaching, and curriculum to staff members, who led interactive math activities with youth. Staff reported increased confidence in using informal math activities, and staff with limited prior experience leading math activities made the greatest gains. Staff reported they were better able to engage youth in math by implementing hands-on activities and utilizing a social-emotional approach to learning. Additionally, the techniques that staff learned through participation in the learning community translated into other activities they implemented in their program, strengthening their overall practice.
