Get ready for Hour of Code in December!
Get ready for the Hour of Code! The hour of code will take place between December 7 – 13, 2015. Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. It is easy to implement the Hour of Code. The how-to guide will walk you through how to sign up, view a brief video on how to join, then students can choose a one hour tutorial that walks them through the basics of coding. Join a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries. Make a plan to participate in the Hour of Code in December.
After School Alliance Launches After School STEM Hub
The Afterschool STEM Hub is a collaboration among afterschool leaders and stakeholders to provide coordinated messaging and communications that impact advocacy and policy and help ensure the important place of afterschool programs in the STEM learning ecosystem. Their website contains a comprehensive set of talking points to support STEM learning in expanded learning programs, as well as a brief informative video about the importance and potential of implementing STEM learning opportunities in expanded learning settings. To compliment the messaging information on the Afterschool STEM Hub access Collaborate to Innovate, a resource designed to spur K-12 and expanded learning partnerships to advance quality STEM learning. Also access additional resources to support STEM learning in expanded learning programs.

Advance Growth Mindsets with the Mindset Kit
The Mindset Kit is a free set of online courses, lessons, and practices for educators and parents who want to foster adaptive learning mindsets. The Mindset Kit was produced by PERTS at Stanford University. The kit contains resources that introduce educators to growth and fixed mindsets and provides practices to help promote a growth mindset in educational environments. The kit also contains training modules and resources to support students growth mindset in math, and a short module for parents that provides information and resources to foster a growth mindset. Click2Science Monthly skill and Crosswalk With NGSS / CCSS
Click2Science is an interactive, professional development site for trainers, coaches, site directors and frontline staff/volunteers working in out-of-school time STEM programs, serving children and youth. Click2Science promotes monthly skills for STEM implementation. This month’s skill is selecting STEM activities. This module is designed to assist program staff in selecting STEM activities with developmentally appropriate materials. Click2Science also recently released a new crosswalk between Click2Science, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
Tech Museum and InventionX Inventing the Future Training
InventionX and The Tech Museum of Innovation (San Jose) have partnered to provide in-depth professional development workshops on STEM engagement, design challenge learning, and implementation of invention challenges. Two dates have been offered for the workshops. Workshops will take place on Saturday January 9th, 2016 and Saturday March 12, 2016 from 10am to 6pm.
