In Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) fashion, CAN appreciates the lessons 2023 brought and the growth 2024 will show. Check out our post below with highlights from 2023; we are grateful for our experiences, partnerships, and work with all of you wonderful humans! We are excited to kick off a leap year with 366 new days and 366 new opportunities to support children, youth, and our OST and EXL fields.

Last year, we invited our subscribers to self-care and included journaling prompts in our newsletters to consider. This year, we will elevate an affirmation in hopes it might inspire you to engage in affirmations with the young people in your communities. As a friendly reminder, our CAN Newsletter includes curated content focusing on CAN News, CDE Updates, What’s New?, Upcoming Events and Opportunities, Additional Resources, and Ways to Stay CAN-nected!  Lastly, our Policy Newsletter is returning soon; don’t miss out, and sign up today!

Reflecting on 2023…

As we start to get ready to embark on another amazing year of impact on the Expanded Learning field, we can’t help but engage in our favorite activity: Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

2023 was a year full of highlights for the CAN team, explore some of them below. We can’t wait to get even better in 2024!

The rate of teenagers overdosing nationally has tripled in the past two years.

Addressing the Youth Opioid & Overdose Crisis
YOR Media Campaign

Did you know that most adults with opioid use disorders (OUDs) started using opioids before the age of twenty-five, with one-third of them before the age of eighteen?

As we mentioned in our last newsletter, CAN is in a new partnership phase with the California Youth Opioid Response (YOR CA) and is committed to increasing awareness about fentanyl and opioid overdose prevention to reduce stigma and protect the lives of Californians, especially the children and youth in our communities. This month, we will take a moment to chat about what Opioids and Fentanyl are, the adolescent overdose crisis, and share Opioid Overdose Prevention resources for youth, educators, and parents/guardians/families in our communities.
