The California Expanded Learning Research and Evaluation Strategy Committee (RESC) is a group of diverse interest holders convened by the California Department of Education (CDE) Expanded Learning Division (EXLD) with support from the California AfterSchool Network (CAN) since 2024. It builds on previous versions of the committee to identify research and evaluation strategies and recommendations for the EXLD to implement in partnership with the broader field, leveraging data to demonstrate the scope and impact of California’s Expanded Learning Opportunities.

This group meets both in person and virtually for a few months in the year. Every year, members have an opportunity to renew their commitment.

Objectives
At a high level, the objectives of the RESC include:

  • Streamlining the data collection and reporting processes to CDE for Expanded Learning Programs.
  • Leveraging existing and soon-to-be-available data and research to demonstrate the scale, scope, and impact of Expanded Learning in California.

The Research Evaluation and Strategy Committee (RESC) convened by the California Department of Education, Expanded Learning Division (CDE EXLD) in partnership with the California AfterSchool Network (CAN), gathered a diverse group of interest holders that came together to identify and collect existing data, and elevate stories of impact, thus the ELO-P Data Snacks were born
