The Power of Discovery

The Power of Discovery: STEM

The Power of Discovery: STEM2 is part of the California AfterSchool Network (CAN) and California STEM Learning Network’s (CSLNet) effort to mobilize a broad coalition of stakeholders who will work together to increase quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning opportunities in Out-of-School Time (OST) programs.

This initiative focuses on the creation and implementation of a robust, statewide system of Regional Innovation Support Providers and Virtual Innovation Supports.  These Regional and Virtual Innovation Supports will work together to implement a comprehensive multi-year strategic plan that will facilitate cross-sector partnerships and increase the professional capacity of OST programs to offer high quality STEM learning opportunities.  This initiative is made possible with the generous support and partnership from the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, the Noyce Foundation, and the Samueli Foundation

We seek Regional Innovation Support Providers
The California AfterSchool Network and California STEM Learning Network are currently seeking qualified applicants to become one of three Regional Innovation Support Providers throughout California.   If you are interested in applying to become a Regional Innovation Support Provider, you will be asked to demonstrate your qualifications through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process.  (read more)

STEM Work Group Creates Web Page on Next Generation Science Standards

Check out the web page developed by the NGSS work group of the STEM Committee that provides a list of resources to help after school and summer programs effectively implement the Next Generation Science Standards. The page lists resources to support the NGSS Implementation (how), access to the NGSS (what), and key reports supporting information for NGSS. These resources will teach educators how to engage K-12 partners in collaboration to advance new standards.
